Peeling Away the Layers

8 October 2014 - 11:52pm -- charles
Peeling Away the Layers

I am sitting staring at the surface
And it looks so beautiful, perfect and impeccable
However something seems amiss and out of place
So, peeling off a layer, I probe and look deeper
Only to find that beneath the surface lay a lot of stuff
Neglected, dusty, and disorganized
Frantic to keep my house in order
I immediately cleaned up this lower level

It felt good and I was so proud of myself
For all but a fleeting moment, that is
Until the unsettling feeling of unease returned
Causing me to search deeper so I peeled away
And to my horror I not only found dusty old clutter
But dark shadows, ghosts, zombies, and skeletons too
They were feasting, reveling and indulging themselves

Noticing my interruption their menacing faces glared at me
Their eyes screaming disapproval and mocking
As if shouting ‘don’t just stand there’

Walk with Me

7 October 2014 - 8:14pm -- charles
Walk with Me
Keep me company
For a while at least
Here in my thoughts
As we gently motion
From here to there

What’s the point?
I hear you asking!
And to what end?
From here to where?

I must insist
Put away your worries
For just a moment
And walk with me
From here to there

Along confined corridors
Leading up to open fields
Of thoughts and possibilities
And of this very moment
The here and now
Come, Walk with me
From here to there

Let us journey
From the roots of the ground
Straight to the moon and stars
And from the stars to the third realm
So come then
Walk with me
Yes, from here to there

Walk with me
From where I stand
To where you are
From where you are
To where I stand

Receive my Sacrifice

2 October 2014 - 4:11pm -- charles
I have prepared an altar
Here I set aside all possession
At this table of worship there is both life and death
Where I partake of the bread and wine that gives life eternal
And where I offer the daily ritual and sacrifice of offering my own life
Whose blemishes have been blotted out and made pure
Kneeling at this altar daily I cry out:

Receive my offering
My broken and contrite heart
As I put pen to paper and utter righteousness
Giving thanks for the love and holiness that you alone can give
For even though my flesh is broken my spirit is renewed and made whole

Receive my heart
The temple of your Holy Spirit
Receive the love of my spirit and soul
As I give my life like a grain of wheat falling to the ground
Giving thanks as I deny myself and delight in your ways: honor, praise, and glory

Receive my gifts

Lamented Straits

25 September 2014 - 10:20pm -- gisella
'Lamentable Straits'
Turned from our places of comfort
We elevate our thoughts upon the Heavenlies
And take but one course to eternal joy and happiness
Answering the call to cure ourselves and many of ill fate

On this journey we face many dangers, toils and snares
On the one side is the wrath of God for the denial of truth
While on the other rests the wrath of men for speaking truth
And towards such hazard many souls have fallen prey and perished

Such are the lamentable straits of the pilgrim
Yet better it is to offend the frail, self-seeking egos of men
Than it is to offend the eternal, righteous, and holy God
And to stir and incur His anger, wrath, and judgment

Fearing dire straits and longing for pleasures many profane
Entrenched in lusts they disregard their perishing souls

Awesome: What is Awesome?

23 September 2014 - 3:59pm -- charles
Awesome: What is Awesome?
We have sought out our own greatness, to be awesome:
We built the tower of Babel and yet we could not touch or enter Heaven
We built the empires of Babylon, Rome, Mongol, Kush, Aksum, Mali, Songhay, Mutapa
We built them strong and fierce, ruling many lands yet they all crumbled to the dust in ruin
We built kingdoms and dynasties but they were as the sands and blew away right before our eyes
We have created towering idols yet they not only consume our sacrifices but also devour us
We can see all the stars and distant constellations yet we cannot see the Creator in creation
We have made so many scientific discoveries but we’re still to understand simple truth

Here we are, Again!

6 August 2014 - 3:21pm -- charles

Here we are, Again!

Here we are
Feeling so far
Man and spouse
Like cat and mouse
We’re fighting, yet again
We’re hurting, once again

Here we are
Back in that place
Pushing and shoving
Shouting and screaming
Loudly hearing nothing, at all!
Nothing, but the angry voice inside

Here we are
We’re holding on
While trying to get away
Dancing to our usual melody
One step forward, two steps back!
Once head over heels, we’re in yet deeper
We’re now stuck with our heads deep in the sand
Buried in a pile of emotions, regrets, and tons of rage

The Origin of Species

5 August 2014 - 1:58pm -- charles

The Origin of Species

Who shall live and who shall die?
The question, now an assertion, I must reply
Can we really ever come to a point of extinction?
Indeed, shall our end be to suffer such an affliction?

The preservation of favoured races in the struggle for life
The genesis of which a reason we endure and suffer great strife
There is also ‘the origin of species by means of natural selection
A theory that has indeed been cause for much concern and reflection

The Light of Life

3 August 2014 - 5:51pm -- charles

The Light of Life

With the eyes of the heart

Looking upwards, I see an incredible light

Though bright, at first it appeared distant and dim

It sprung up while I sat downcast in the shadows of the darkness

It appeared before, around, and from within me as I gazed bewildered and transfixed

Confined Thoughts

25 July 2014 - 6:37pm -- charles
“For as a man thinketh in his heart so is he” Proverbs 23:7
The thoughtful ponder
Concerning all aspects of life, here and after
Indeed even the origin, nature and purpose of thought itself
These streams of consciousness present themselves without ceasing
Pounding repeatedly, in the mind, as waves upon the shore at the peak of each full moon
Thoughts are the gateway of meditation, imagination, reason, perspective, character and action

In Writing: A Letter to Love

11 July 2014 - 2:30pm -- charles
A Letter to Love
"And now these three remain: fath, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."
1 Corinthians 13:13
It brings a sparkle to the eyes
Laughter to the heart
Music to the ears
A kiss to the lips
Heaven to earth
And joy to one’s soul
Love is always beautiful
